The 2005 First Edition ornament, designed by Nelda Laney, is offered as physical representation of the desire to prevent child abuse. The focus of the three dimensional collectible is Texas children, just as efforts to prevent child abuse should be directed to children throughout Texas . Finished in 24K gold, a band of stars encircles the shape of Texas . The stars signify that our children are the stars of our future. Holding hands and standing out from the ornament, the children remind us all that our children should stand out from everything else as our foremost concern.

Prevent Child Abuse
Ornament 2006
This ornament is the second of a series of Prevent Child Abuse collectibles designed to heighten awareness of the importance of this critical issue. The focus of this three dimensional ornament is a blue ribbon-the nationally recognized symbol of child abuse prevention efforts. Created in the shape of the state of Texas in brushed 24 K gold, the ornament reminds us that the need to prevent abuse of children is important in every part of our state. By working together in every small and large community of our state, we can make a difference in this important issue that traumatizes so many children every year. Holding hands and standing out from the top of the ornament are the children, reminding us that they at the top of our priority list.
Nelda Laney was selected to create this ornament because of her commitment to the cause and her history of successful ornament projects and outstanding individual designs. She and her husband, Representative Pete Laney, former Speaker of the Texas House, have been the recipients of the Outstanding Child Advocacy Award for the southern United States. Since Nelda created the Texas Capitol project and designed from 1996-2002, she has designed for many worthy causes. Volunteering her time and raising millions of dollars, this is her twenty first for others such as MD Anderson Hospital, the Vatican, and Rotary International.
