Community Partners of Hood & Somervell Counties has the following programs helping children:
The Rainbow Room
The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource in a store-like setting that distributes new and "like-new" items to CPS caseworkers for their clients and foster children. The room provides items such as clothing, school supplies, underwear & socks, Payless Shoe gift cards, baby supplies, diapers, car seats, cribs, toys, hygiene items, bedding, cleaning supplies, lice medication, insecticides, twin beds and much more. These items are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Children who are removed from abusive situations are able to enter foster care with the dignity of having new and clean possessions that they can call their own.
Items are also provided to families who are in the process of being investigated and found not to be abusive, but need help. These services enable families to stay together. It also fosters good will between the families and CPS caseworkers.
The state does not provide these services to CPS caseworkers. In years prior to the establishment of the Rainbow Room, caseworkers had no resources available to provide for the emergency needs of clients.

Adopt-A-Caseworker
The Adopt-A-Caseworker Program partners members of the community with Child Protective Services caseworkers and the families they serve. The caseworker contacts his or her adopting group when there is an unmet need, and the group members utilize their resources to assist the caseworker. Without the adoptive sponsor, the caseworker could spend hours trying to locate resources. The worker can now spend time working directly with the children and their families. The program is appreciated by the caseworkers, their supervisors, and most importantly by the children and families that are benefiting from this cause. The adopting group is able to be involved in their community and know exactly how their contributions are being used, because the caseworker also keeps them informed about the impact of the group's support! The program is flexible and creative, and based on the needs of the caseworker and the group. Individuals, attorney associations, businesses, service clubs and Sunday School classes have adopted caseworkers. They have helped with birthday presents, special events, sports equipment and registration fees, household items, furniture, special camps and much more. Adopting groups also provide much needed moral support for the caseworkers in the way of prayers, cards of encouragement or small gifts, and treats for special occasions and holidays.
Other Important Projects:
Foster Parents Night Out
This event is held the first Friday of December for Foster Parents in Hood/Somervell Counties. The foster parents are treated to movie tickets and gift certificates to a local restaurant. The children are treated to a fun, activity-filled Christmas party. This year they are having a Jumping Party at a local "Jumping Party" business. Santa Claus always makes an appearance and all the kids get a chance to talk to Santa. They have pizza, make your own ice cream sundaes, crafts, games, Magic Show, and lots of fun. All ages of foster children and the foster parents "natural" children are invited. This has become a much anticipated event for the foster parents, who deserve a much needed break, and for the kids who have so much fun.
"Aging-Out" Parties
These are "showers" held for young adults who are aging out of the foster care system. These children are setting up households for the first time, and have no immediate family to help them. Volunteers from the Rainbow Room Board and the Child Welfare Board work together to organize these parties and collect household items such as good used furniture, bedding, cleaning supplies, kitchen and bathroom items, groceries, small appliances, gift cards for oil changes or whatever they have requested. The young adults are asked to provide a wish list so volunteers can get them what they need and want.
When one of these young adults is going to college, they are given things they will need such as school supplies, computer and printer, bedding and towels and lost of gift cards for meals, oil changes and whatever they need. They are also given a cash donation to help them pay for their school expenses.
Family Reunification Gifts
This is a new program that was added in 2007. The Rainbow Room Board, Adopt A Caseworker groups and other friends of the Rainbow Room provide needed items for families who are being reunified with their children. They reward the parents who have done eveything they needed to do to get their children back from foster care. The parents are asked for a wish list for items they need to help them get a good start with their children. Many times, the families need help with groceries or other household items. And, of course, they don't forget the kids, who are given new clothes and toys. The families are often given board and card games that encourage the family to play together.
Clothing distribution
Gifts are given to foster children in Hood/Somervell Counties in October in preparation for winter. Each child receives 2 outfits, pajamas, underwear and socks, a homemade quilt to curl up on the couch with and toys. The items are mailed to children who live outside of the immediate area, and caseworkers deliver the items to the children who live in the area. This is in addition to the items children receive throughout the year.
A Month of Wednesdays
Breakfast goodies, lunch and other treats are provided to CPS staff each Wednesday in December by the Rainbow Room Board. This is a wonderful way to recognize and thank the CPS staff who work so hard all year protecting our children.
Firecracker Open Golf Tournament
This golf tournament is held every July in partnership with the Foster Parents Association. This has grown each year and is a huge success. The players say they have alot of fun and really know it is for a good cause.
