The Advocacy Center for Children of Galveston County has the following programs helping children:
The Rainbow Room
The Rainbow Room is an in-house emergency resource center that distributes new items, such as clothing, diapers and formula, to clients of CPS caseworkers.
The most basic needs of a family in crisis are often unavailable, and caseworkers typically cannot provide the necessities from their personal resources. With the introduction of the Rainbow Room, assistance with basic needs becomes available. This is instrumental in keeping families together through traumatic times and can be equally critical in developing a helping relationship between workers and client families.

Advocacy Center Services:
Each child victim or witness who comes to the Advocacy Center for Children of Galveston County is interviewed by a specially trained professional, thus reducing the number of times the child must relate the incident. Interviews are conducted in a child-friendly setting, and medical evaluations are coordinated.
Weekly meetings are held between all agencies to maximize the investigative process and provide timely intervention and disposition.
Crisis therapy is provided for child victims and non-offending family members in the midst of disclosure of abuse.
The Advocacy Center for Children of Galveston County serves as the central information point and referral source for families throughout the life of the case.
Clients are provided assistance with the application and procedure for Crime Victim Compensation
The Advocacy Center provides support for the victim and family members throughout the court process, including court preparation and accompaniment to court proceedings.
Computerized data files provide comprenhensive statistical information about physical and sexual abuse.
Training and education is provided for professionals at the Center and in the community.
How This Helps
The Advocacy Center for the Children of Galveston County recently had a little four year old girl come to the Center. She had been seriously neglected and CPS had to remove her from her home. The little girl was very shy and sad, and she was dirty from head to toe. Her t-shirt was old and torn, her hair was matted and she had no shoes. First, she was put in the tub for a bath, which she enjoyed immensely. After that, she was able to pick out her own socks, underwear and a new outfit from the Rainbow Room. As the volunteer was finishing fixing her hair, the little girl looked at herself in the mirrow and quietly said, "I'm pretty". Her voice was filled with both joy and amazement. It is certain that it had been a very long time, if ever, since she had felt that way.
