Community Partners of Lubbock has the following programs helping children:
The Rainbow Room
The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource room managed by Community Partners of Lubbock. It consists of a store-like setting that allows Child Protective Services workers to go "shopping" for the children and families on their caseloads. The room is stocked with new items such as clothing, shoes, toys and games, diapers, formula, school supplies, hygiene products and cleaning products. Every item in the Rainbow Room is donated or purchased from donations.
Adopt-A-Caseworker
The Adopt-A-Caseworker Program is simply Partnerships for Children. The program partners members of the community with Child Protective Services and the families they serve. The caseworker contacts his or her adopting group when there is an unmet need, and the group members utilize their resources to assist the caseworker. Without the adoptive sponsor, the caseworker could spend hours trying to locate resources. The worker can now spend time working directly with the children and their families. The program is appreciated by the caseworkers, their supervisors, and most importantly by the children and families that are benefiting from this cause. The adopting group is able to be involved in their community and know exactly how their contributions are being used, because the caseworker also keeps them informed about the impact of the group's support! The program is flexible and creative, and based on the needs of the caseworker and the group. In Lubbock, individuals, attorney associations, businesses, service clubs and Sunday School classes have adopted caseworkers. The y have helped with birthday presents, special events, school supplies, clothing needs, household items, hygiene items, and special camps. They brought a smile to a child, who brought a smile to the caseworker, who brought a smile to the "adopter."
Lifebooks
Volunteers help assemble Lifebooks for children in foster care. Records and pictures of the child from birth through present age help identify who the child has been with and what has occurred in his/her life. These children are usually waitaing to be adopted and Lifeboooks establish a past. This is especially important when there has not been a consistent caretake that can answer questions for them. The child's caseworker will be available to the volunteer to assist in developing the history and gathering special items, such as out-of-town pictures if the chidlren was ever placed outside of Lubbock.
Elf Drive
Every year, Community Partners raises donations to purchase holiday gifts for Lubbock County children in foster care. Day-to-day needs are covered by state and/or federal funding, but no resources are available for Christmas, birthdays, graduations, or special needs. Volunteers help raise funds and shop for gifts to ensure these foster children have happy holidays.
